The Trojan called "trojan.osx.boonana.a" has been discovered by a Mac Security web site SecureMac. It disguises itself within video files shared on social networking sites like Facebook with such notes as "Is this you in this video?" Clicking the link makes the trojan run a Java applet that automatically downloads more files and opens an installer.
When installed on the system, the trojan runs in the background and reports to some servers on the internet, possibly sharing private information and sending itself as spam messages via email.
The installer requires username and password to run so it is easy to avoid so long as the user does not complete installations that are not explicitly started. The user should quit and delete both the installer and the video from the system without providing any information.
Security companies should be updating their anti-virus software to be able to recognize the new trojan. Meanwhile, if unsure you can run SecureMac's Trojan Removal Tool.
The Trojan is written in Java and is therefore cross platform and can affect both Windows and Mac OS X users.
