Canelo Alvarez Update

By Gabriel F. Cordero

This week, unbeaten Mexican prospect Saúl “Canelo” Alvarez moves into the “speed stage” of his preparations to fight for the vacant WBC super welterweight world championship on March 5 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Alvarez will run on a track daily and spar each third day to reach his peak physical form for facing the experienced Matthew Hatton. “Canelo” is looking to become the third Mexican fighter to claim the WBC 154lb crown, following Lupe Aquino in 1987 and two-time titleholder Oscar de La Hoya, who became a naturalized Mexican citizen in 2002. Team Canelo will head to California next weekend, after training in Guadalajara.
